AIOU aims to educate inmates

Karachi, The bad habit chancellor of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Dr Shahid Siddiqui, on Monday went to the Karachi Central Jail to cross over any barrier in the middle of detainees and the varsity.

He said instruction would be given with no charge to the detainees to turn them gainful individuals from society.

"Both the procedure of confirmation and securing of learning have been made less demanding and more than 50 detainees have communicated their craving to look for affirmation in the college," he said. "Around 300 detainees are enlisted at the AIOU and passing the examination would diminish their season of discipline in the correctional facility."

He further said that mentors of the AIOU would offer lessons to the detainees and books would be made accessible in the correctional facility's library.

Dr Shahid said that he had gone to prisons in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Quetta and he would likewise visit correctional facilites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan to spread training.
